Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) is a common congenital craniofacial deformity with a high prevalence. Orthognathic surgery and distraction osteogenesis are two conventionally used treatments of HFM. The main objective of this retrospective study was to evaluate the accuracy of two treatments with the help of virtual surgical planning in adult HFM patients. Sixty-eight adult patients with unilateral HFM were enrolled in this study. Preoperative surgical planning and simulation were performed on three-dimensional computed tomography models. Orthognathic surgery or distraction osteogenesis was performed under the guidance of three-dimensional surgical templates. Postoperative evaluation of the intervention was performed by comparison of the affected ramus height, chin deviation and the occlusal cant in surgical planning and actual result. Outcome and feedback information (an average of 14 months) showed that virtual surgical planning was accurately transferred to actual surgery in both surgical approaches. There were no statistical differences between the accuracy of affected ramus height and the occlusal cant in two surgical approaches. The orthognathic group showed significantly higher accuracy in chin deviation. In conclusion, virtual surgical planning and three-dimensional surgical templates were proved to facilitate treatment planning and offer an accurate surgical result in the treatment of adult HFM patients. 相似文献

The African wild dog is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa and belongs to the family Canidae which includes domestic dogs and their closest relatives (i.e., wolves, coyotes, jackals, dingoes, and foxes). The African wild dog is known for its highly social behavior, co-ordinated pack predation, and striking vocal repertoire, but little is known about its brain and whether it differs in any significant way from that of other canids. We employed gross anatomical observation, magnetic resonance imaging, and classical neuroanatomical staining to provide a broad overview of the structure of the African wild dog brain. Our results reveal a mean brain mass of 154.08 g, with an encephalization quotient of 1.73, indicating that the African wild dog has a relatively large brain size. Analysis of the various structures that comprise their brains and their topological inter-relationships, as well as the areas and volumes of the corpus callosum, ventricular system, hippocampus, amygdala, cerebellum and the gyrification index, all reveal that the African wild dog brain is, in general, similar to that of other mammals, and very similar to that of other carnivorans. While at this level of analysis we do not find any striking specializations within the brain of the African wild dog, apart from a relatively large brain size, the observations made indicate that more detailed analyses of specific neural systems, particularly those involved in sensorimotor processing, sociality or cognition, may reveal features that are either unique to this species or shared among the Canidae to the exclusion of other Carnivora. 相似文献

The kinesin superfamily of proteins (KIFs) are microtubule motor proteins that use the hydrolysis of ATP to power directional movement along microtubules. KIFs induce microtubule depolymerization to regulate the length and dynamics of microtubules in a variety of cell processes and structures, including the mitotic and meiotic spindles and centriole and interphase microtubules. KIF plays a significant role in the transport of organelles, protein complexes and mRNAs. The brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) is a major insect pest in rice paddy fields. Ovarian development is regulated by multiple factors, including endocrine factors. The role of KIFs in brown planthopper ovarian development remains unknown. We found that downregulation of KIF2A significantly compromised the development and eclosion of the brown planthopper, delayed ovarian cell cycle progression, disrupted ovarian development, reduced the expression of MCM genes required for DNA replication and significantly reduced the number of nuclei in the follicles. We also found a significant reduction in Vg mRNA and protein levels. We conclude that downregulation of KIF2A disrupts the cell cycle progression of cells. Alternatively, the ovarian phenotype could be an indirect effect of a compromised trophic cord. In summary, KIF2A regulates ovarian development via modulating cell cycle progression and/or vitollogenin transportation. 相似文献
